Rudge convertible sociable, from England, 1882

Enjoying a nice bicycle ride together.

Several people riding a single bicycle is not exceptional. On tricycles and quadricycles from the 19th century the lady is usually seated in front of the gentleman. What is special about this bike is that the two users are seated next to each other. This is why they are also called sociables, because you can have a nice conversation together. The lady does the steering and the gentleman only needs to pedal. This bike can be converted into a means of conveyance for one person.
