This mechanical armchair or wheelchair was made around 1855 by the court supplier John Ward of Leicestersquare, London. Before people started making vehicles that could be propelled by their own power, there were experiments with them for people with physical disabilities. The earliest example of a mechanical wheelchair dates back to the 15th century.
